My mother (from employee Jolanda) and my grandmother (from owner Ilse) went into 'Involvement' in the 1930s.
She started working at the age of 12 as a 'Maid' for well-to-do families. In her case in Apeldoorn.
Working as a 'Maid' was quite hard, often not a full working week and not always well earned.
The young girls or unmarried young ladies then looked for a second job or had another business to earn some extra money.
In our case we have a 'trade' in Old Dutch Candy. For example, we tour the country at events, fairs,
King's Day, farmers' and old craft markets to sell sweets from the past. We sell the sweets at low prices in order to retain the feeling of the past.
Of course, 1, 2 and 5 cents unfortunately no longer work. (This is why we still need a basic rent to cover the costs.)
The price list hangs on the washing line, between the drying laundry.
Our 'Servants' costumes are handmade for us after models from 1900 to 1920.
We have found these in the books with us in the Hoeksche Waard, but also in Amsterdam and Groningen. It is therefore non-regional.
